During his high school days, he was president of the award-winning Press Club, where he promoted good literature. As an undergraduate, he leads the team that revived the Creative Writer’s Club, the University of Benin which continues to churn out great literary talents across the country, among them are two times Word-Up Slam Winner – Wayne Samuel, Award-winning Writer, Eden Benibo, Prince Charles, Sam De Poet, etc. He has worked intermittently as an intern, freelancer, contract staff and held other administrative positions in Print, Broadcast, and online media outlets across Nigeria they include TVC News, GoTel, Tlive Media, OGTV, 69 Entertainment, UNIBEN FM, Nigerian Observer, The Pilot, etc. He also organized the University of Benin Literary Festival, where he acted as both Co-Convener and Festiva Secretary, he is a regular at literary events across Nigeria, including the Anambra Book and Art Festival and others in Lagos. He has written hundreds of news stories as a freelancer at TVCNews.
He also produced over 50 programs with Tlive Media as a Production Manager. He is a contributor to both local and national newspapers, online blogs such as Punch, Vanguard, etc. When Joseph Jegede is not reporting or promoting works of arts, he is working towards one development project or the other, he is pragmatic about Mahatma Gandhi’s Quote “We can only find ourselves when we are lost in the service of others” and this has guided his enthusiasm in managing developmental projects across Nigeria.
In 2017, he launched the Zero Tolerance Campaign against Juvenile Bus Conductors in Benin City Edo State, which were part of key policies later implemented in state government. He was also a volunteer at the Edo State Taskforce Against Human Trafficking working for the rehabilitation of over 3,000 Libya Returnees in 2018. In July 2019, he received the UN Environmental Day Hero Award for his project centered on combating cholera in Northeast Nigeria through community clean-up and mobilization. In Lagos, he is a volunteer to numerous organizations including the Empower Africa Project, Action Aid, United Nations Association of Nigeria, Beach Samaritan, etc.
